How we research and rank
ToolPickr exists because most “best software” lists are written by vendors or by people who never logged in. Here is exactly how we do it differently.
- 1
We define the buyer
Every guide targets one specific type of business — e.g. a small hotel under 50 rooms — not a vague average.
- 2
We research and trial in depth
We sign up for free trials where we can and dig into the real feature set, pricing and owner feedback — the way an owner would evaluate it. Where a score is based on research rather than a full hands-on setup, we say so.
- 3
We score five dimensions
Ease of setup, core capability, day-to-day experience, value for money, and support — each rated out of 5.
- 4
We write the trade-offs
Pros and cons are what we actually found, including the annoying parts vendors don’t mention.
- 5
We date everything
Each guide shows when it was last updated, and we revisit picks as products change.
How we handle affiliate links
Some links on ToolPickr are affiliate links. If you subscribe to a product through one, we may earn a commission — usually a share of the subscription — at no extra cost to you. This is how we fund the testing.
Crucially, commissions never change the order of our rankings. We rank on merit for the specific buyer, and we include tools with no affiliate program when they’re the right answer. If a top pick ever pays us nothing, it still stays the top pick.
